Imagine having a home, living with your family, spending time with your friends, chasing your goals and dreams, and just living life like every human does. Then one day, it is all taken away; your home, your friends, your family...life as you knew it.
This is what has happened to people in North-East Nigeria because of Boko Haram, a terrorist organisation.
These people of North-East Nigeria are now being referred to as, "Internally Displaced Persons" (IDPs).
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), there were 2,233,506 IDPs in North-East Nigeria as at October 2015. This is made up of 318,937 households.
This is heartbreaking.
To help these people, our brothers and sisters, a group of people have come together to start a fundraising initiative called, #AThousand1000.
The objective of #AThousand1000 is to get 1,000 people to commit to donating N1,000 (one thousand naira) monthly for 12 months. Funds raised will be used to support the IDPs through the provision of food, clothing, personal care items, educational materials, and setting up sustainable schemes that will help them get back on their feet.
